  • Sandown Park Golf Course, Esher
  • Silvermere Golf Club, Cobham
  • Thames Ditton & Esher Golf Club
  • Burhill Golf Club, Walton-on-Thames
  • Surbiton Golf Club

Tennis Wimbledon - home of the All England Tennis Club and the famous Grand Prix championship is but 20 mins by road or train. Every town and almost every village boasts their own tennis club or two plus public facilities open to all.

Cricket Surrey has one of the finest county championship records. Many games are played at the Oval in London but occasional games are played in the more rural surroundings of Guildford. The success of the county team rests upon a network of local clubs catering for players of all abilities and providing both a pleasant sporting and social environment.

Horse Racing Sandown Park in Esher lies within our area. Not much further are the famous courses at Epsom (home of 'The Derby'), Royal Ascot and Kempton Park

Countryside

woodsThe varied landscape has been protected by the 'greenbelt' around London. Ancient woods abound and the area is also home to the Royal Horticultural Gardens at Wisley and the famous eighteenth century adventure in landscape gardening at Painshill Park.

Also within easy reach is Runnymede where King John signed the Magna Carta in 1215 and now home to the Kennedy memorial. Alongside is the great River Thames flowing tranquilly eastwards past Hampton Court Palace towards London. Windsor Castle, home of the Queen and Windsor Great Park is but a short distance away.

Transport

signpostBesides being one of the most convenient places for commuting into central London our area is well served by motorways to the west (M4), the southwest (M3) and to all the other national trunk roads by the London orbital M25 motorway.

London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports are within easy reach yet the area is still a series of intimate towns and villages abounding in quiet lanes and by-ways.

Weybridge, home of APW, also has a special place in the history of transport with the former Brooklands motor racing track where Bentley's raced in the 1930's. During the war Barnes Wallis designed and Vickers built the innovative Wellington bomber in Weybridge.

Education

American Community SchoolSurrey is a wonderful place to bring up a family. Besides the pleasant environment and an opportunity to become involved in the local community activities - Surrey offers a rich variety of educational opportunities. Surrey County Council provides free state schooling and many famous public schools are within reach. Cobham is home to the world famous Yehudi Menuhin School for gifted musicians and of the American Community School.

There are also many opportunities for further and higher education. Guildford is the home of the University of Surrey and Royal Holloway College, (a constituent college of the University of London) has an amazing Victorian edifice in Egham.
